The School of Foreign Languages aims to give highly-qualified application-oriented professionals a solid foundation of English and a wide horizon of cultural, literary and linguistic skills as well as an independent and creative thinking ability and strong cross-cultural communication skills. Our graduates adapt well to the needs of social development and are competent for any work related with the English language such as translation/interpretation, instruction, administration in economic and foreign trade organizations, cultural and educational institutions, scientific and technological departments, tourism services, foreign affairs offices and other areas.
The students acquire basic systematical theory and knowledge of English language, American and British Literature, and the background information and cultures of English-speaking counties, as well as the basic theory and knowledge of computer science. Our students receive excellent training in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating, and, at the same time, get a basic knowledge of foreign trade and economy.
Sixty four full-time teachers are dedicated to the research of Linguistics, English and American Literature, Translation Theory and Practice, and English Teaching. Among them, 19 are professors or associate professors, and 41 hold master or doctorate degrees.
Every year the school invites foreign teachers and distinguished experts to give lectures to the students and teachers.
With the help of advanced language teaching devices, the school provides a learning platform for the academic staff and students with comprehensive digital audio-visual teaching resources, newspapers and periodicals and foreign language books.
